Только сегодня узнала, что уже началась “Масленичная” неделя.. Значит пора печь блины и встречать весну.. Только погода с нами не согласна, но у нас еще 5 дней, чтобы ее убедить..

Понедельник - встреча. К этому дню достраивались горы, качели, балаганы. Те, кто побогаче, начинали печь блины. Первый блин отдавался нищим на помин усопших.

Вторник - заигрыши. С утра молодые люди приглашались кататься с гор, поесть блинов. Звали родных и знакомых: “У нас де горы готовы и блины испечены - просим жаловать”.

Среда - лакомки. В этот день зять приходил “к теще на блины”. Кроме зятя теща приглашала и других гостей.

Четверг - широкий разгул. С этого дня Масленица разворачивалась во всю ширь. Народ предавался всевозможным потехам: ледяные горы, балаганы, качели, катание на лошадях, карнавалы, кулачные бои, шумные пирушки.

Пятница - тещины вечерки. Зятья приглашали в гости своих тещ, угощали их блинами.

Суббота - золовкины посиделки. Молодые невестки приглашали в гости к себе золовок. Новобрачная невестка должна была подарить золовкам подарки.

The US is going to watch the Nigth Watch Actually, they already started - as it’s said on the fox site the movie is in the cinema in the big cities from the 24th of February. It’s curious to me to hear the impressions of the movie - so, if somebody could share them with me - that would be great. I watched the Hollywood movies both in English and in Russian (translation) - and sometimes it was completely different.

This Friday I took a day off to recover from the flu.. Heh, if I only knew what I was going to miss! (it’s happened to me to be employed by the MCCI)…

Workers at a facility in Azerbaijan owned by US oil services company McDermott went on strike Friday after managers removed posters commemorating the dead from a war with Armenia, officials and striking workers said.

The posters marked a national day of mourning for the war in the early 1990s.

“Workers have not resumed work, but the management … is investigating the situation to take the necessary measures,” company spokeswoman Gyulya Tagiyeva told AFP. “We regret that this misunderstanding has happened.”

Heh, what a month! Moving servers, changing job position, flocks of dead swans on the coast… I’ve got flu, but not the birds’ one (my parrot is still alive ). As the February is going to its end, as the winter itself, so hope no more snow, no more cold, hurray Spring!

Azerbaijan reports bird flu outbreak in wild birds

BAKU (Reuters) - Azerbaijan said on Friday the deadly H5N1 strain of bird flu had been found in wild birds on the Caspian Sea.

Samples from the birds were sent for tests to London and showed the bird flu strain was present, a spokesman for the Health Ministry said.

“In some analyses the H5N1 bird flu strain was found,” the spokesman told Reuters. “Bird flu has not yet been found in the human population.”

Azerbaijan, which has borders with Turkey, Russia, Iran, Armenia and Georgia, has been testing birds after poultry deaths in the south of the country.

Four people have died in neighbouring Turkey from an outbreak of the virus that is concentrated in the east of the country.

While the H5N1 virus mostly affects birds, it has killed at least 88 people in seven countries since it re-emerged in late 2003, with most victims in east Asia.
